Breast feeding must haves?

I really liked the Lasinoh Lanolin cream.

Some babies have latch problems the first few weeks so it might be a good idea to buy a ****** shield (if your LO isn’t latching on well at the hospital even with a lactation nurse helping they may end up giving you one)

Motherhood Maternity stores have some great nursing bras for $20. I have 3 and their great! Make sure you get a good night time nursing bra too, I have a Bravado bra which was VERY comfy for when my milk came in.

mother-hood recently had a sale on their BF bras! they were as cheap as wal-marts! check the site. but my friend prefers sportsbras, I guess it depends on the person. I also heard the pure %100 lanolin’s the best for the ******* and I’ve also noticed it’s cheaper than most ****** creams! so that’s what I’m going to go with

Nipple shields are for use under the supervision of certified lactation consultants. They’re not for messing around with–they can mess things up if you don’t know how to use them.

I’m wearing Target bras now. My friend likes the Target tanks, but they’re too short for me.

I would see how often you want to pump ( I haven’t pumped in years). If it’s an every day thing, you may want to invest in a better pump. Medela and Ameda are the trusted brands. Anything else is an off brand.

You’ll need lots of support and education. You’ll need to be able to call someone and ask if you’re doing it right, because it can be hard to get started. You’ll need lots of water and snacks and a comfy place to sit, because some nights you’ll only get up to ***. Lots of pillows are important. Swaddling blankets are good to have. You can swaddle your little one tightly to keep his/her hands out of the way.

Your friend needs to get a second and third opinion. It’s almost always possible to treat mom effectively while baby nurses safely.

ETA: I forgot the sling! It’s the best. You can survive without it, but if you have another child, it will be a must-have. Really, you’ll wonder how you lived without it.

I agree with Nayeli’s Mommy. You’ll also want some ****** pads for when your milk starts coming in. It starts coming in about 3-4 days after birth and will feel overly full for a while. The ****** pads will help prevent embarrassing leakage and will help you feel more comfortable (its very uncomfortable to have a soaked shirt haha). They have disposable and reusable. The disposables are more convenient as you dont have to wash them but the reusables obviously last longer and are cheaper in the long run. I use the disposables though because I can just throw the whole box in the diaper bag and not have to worry about running out because I dont have clean ones.
Oh yes and a nursing pillow is not absolutely necessary but definitely recommended!

breasts & a **** -it really is that simple. you can invest in nursing bras for the different stages, a lactation consultant, ****** pads, etc.

The best cream I’ve used is the Lansinoh lanolin cream. I got some good nursing bras at motherhood maternity & Target. But the one thing I ansolutely love is my nursing pillow, you have to get one. You can buy them at walmart & babies r us, I don’t know what’d I do without mine. Congrats & best of luck.

Well first of all congratulations!!! Now about the cream for sore nipples, try this first before you spend any money on a cream, I did it and it worked great, take some of your own milk (gently squeeze it out) and rub it on your ****** and let it air dry without any shirt on or anything else, I give you my word this works found it on lots of good info on this website. If this seems to weird for you then simply buy lansinoh brand (purple color pkg) they are one of the best brands out there, another thing, for breastfeeding and pumping, you might want to get storage containers for your milk, I use those avent bottles so I could not afford too many to put in the fridge, so i got these bottles work great for me and they only cost $15 this is a great way to carry more milk with you and not all those bulky bottles :) good luck!!!!

    Ok
    1. ****** shields! a must!
    2. Gerber ****** stick, you don’t need to wash before feeding again!
    3. v-neck cotton sweaters!!!!(easy to pull to the side)
    4. I had a knit poncho…baby liked to look around once she got a bit older and this she could not pull down to look around(very embarrassing!)
    5. ****** pads for leakage!!!!!! don’t forget these!
It seems like alot but once your in the swing of it you realize how easy it makes life! ie. no bottles to warm, or clean, it’s always with you, and it makes a great connection for you and the little one!

i found little suction cups for the other ******.. when my 6 week old latches on one side, the other side also gets a let down as well.. so to catch the milk i use these.. they’re really good!

also, the electric pump was the best thing i ever invested in!! i simply couldn’t use the manual one

  • Cindy; mum to 3 monkeys! posted: 16 Jul at 10:03 am

Get some LANSINOH ****** cream and start massaging it in for 5 minutes per day from now to the birth to start conditioning your ******* to the harsh treatment they are about to endure!!
Continue putting it on after every feeding session to keep your ******* supple and ***** and blister free :)

Make absolutely sure whatever bras you buy FIT PROPERLY!! Go to a bra store and ask to be fitted properly by a professional. You don’t have to buy their bras, just say you’re going to have a think about it and leave but at least you will know what the best size for you is.
It is my absolute BEST piece of advice I could give to all new mothers. DO NOT wear any bra that does not support you properly and keep your girls up where they should be!!

I thought those nursing tank top thingys were crap and my ***** never had support or anything so I don’t recommend them at all. Proper bras with a top over it is much better. Maybe only wear the tank top ones at night as you still have to wear a nursing bra to bed or you will leak everywhere!

Use washable ****** pads rather than disposables. They absorb a lot more milk and don’t scrunch up in your bra.
AVENT washable ****** pads are my favourite. You can get 6 for $7 on Amazon.com. 4 x 6pks is a good amount and only $28 with no ongoing costs like you do with disposables. You will spend a lot more on them than the washables. Plus they come with their own mesh washing bag that you throw them into when they go into the washing machine so you don’t lose any like you do with socks lol!

Other than those three things, you don’t need single thing else other than the baby!

GOOD nursing bras. I got all of mine at Motherhood Maternity for like…$18 or $20 each, they ******. They had no support, they fell apart after a few times of wearing them. The next best thing are the $60 ones but they’d be worth it.

  • nottrina posted: 20 Jul at 4:28 am

i use lansinoh ****** cream. its all natural, and i dont even have to wash it off before i feed my son.

i dont see how certain medications could keep your gf from pumping.. but you got a ****** pump anyway so… evenflo brand BP dont do very well, and they dont last very long either. if you’re going to use a pump, you should invest in a hospital grade pump such as a medela. they are kind of pricey, but definitely worth it. and they can last for years. better to spend money on the best, than to keep buying a generic brand that breaks in a couple weeks

along with the pump, you need ****** milk storage bags, and bottles with a wide ******.

breast pads are a must! otherwise breastmilk would get everywhere. i recommend the lansinoh ****** pads. they are extremely comfy, discreet, and very absorbant.

lots and lots of cloth diapers to use as burp rags. i go through several of these a day because my son spits up a lot.

Get a sling. I wish I’d had one in the early days(months!) when my LO was nursing non-stop. I love my baby k’tan! (check it out,)
I got my nursing bras from target, they held up really well. As for nursing tanks… all the ones I found were so short, my gut would’ve hung out, so I skipped those, and just bought spaghetti strap tanks, and pulled my **** out of the top. But, I have very small ***** (less than a handful.) That might not work for you if you have big *****.
Lansinoh is FANTASTIC! Especially for in the shower. Soap would burn my ******* so bad when they were chapped and cracked. I started coating my ******* and areolas with the lansinoh right before I’d step in the shower, and it worked wonders.
